MX Keys Mini keys are sold individually, hinge included: from €9.99 for a letter or digit, €10.99 for a modifier and €21.90 for the space bar, in its shorter Mini version. Letters cost a little more than on the standard MX Keys (€8.99) because Mini keyboards to dismantle are scarcer. The MX Keys Mini, the compact MX Keys launched in 2021, uses the same scissor keys, with two exceptions: the spacebar is shorter (5U instead of 6.25U) and there is no numeric keypad. A broken key is fixed exactly as on an MX Keys, with the same hinge.
Diagnosis
Proceed as for a standard MX Keys: if the key fell off and the hinge is intact, put it back for free. If the hinge is split or broken, order a hinge (€6.99) or a replacement key, hinge included. Beware of the spacebar: do not order the standard MX Keys bar, specifically take the MX Keys Mini bar.
How to fix it
- 1
Identify the broken key and note your layout (Mini available in AZERTY, QWERTY US/UK, QWERTZ DE, QWERTY ES/IT/PT).
- 2
Lift the key vertically with a fingernail or plastic spudger.
- 3
If the hinge is broken, remove the fragments and clip the one supplied with the key.
- 4
Place the replacement key and press firmly until you hear the click.
FAQ
Are MX Keys Mini keys compatible with the standard MX Keys?
Yes for all letters, numbers and modifiers (same scissor profile, same size). No for the spacebar (5U vs 6.25U) and some keys whose position differs.
Is the MX Keys Mini more fragile than the standard MX Keys?
Not significantly. Components are the same. Its compactness means it travels more often, which exposes it to more knocks.
How much does an MX Keys Mini key cost?
From €9.99 for a letter or digit, €10.99 for a modifier, €21.90 for the spacebar (Mini). Hinge included each time.
A broken MX Keys Mini key is repaired exactly like a standard MX Keys. Just remember to select Mini when ordering.
