Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the 2 / " replacement key

A 2 / " key from the number row of the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge, to replace a broken or lost digit without buying a new keyboard. A genuine salvaged part: the 2 / " key is taken, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard and shipped without a dome.

Compatibility

This 2 / " keycap is cut for QWERTZ (DE) keyboards and fits the MX Keys Mini as well as the full-size MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac: across the alphanumeric block, both chassis use the same 1U cap. The legend is that of the QWERTZ (DE) layout.

The 2 / " key: position, size and wear

The 2 / " key belongs to the number row, above the letters. It types 2 on its own; the symbol printed beside it needs Shift. Like every one-unit key, the 2 / " key has no metal wire underneath: it is held only by its scissor hinge, clipped onto four anchor points. Once one clip gives way, the key tilts, pops off or falls out, while the cap itself is often intact.

How to install it

Fitting takes no tools. If the old hinge under the 2 / " key is split, remove its fragments; seat the one supplied, hold the new cap flat above it and press the middle — a click tells you it is held.

4-step guide: repairing a broken MX Keys key

2 / " key — questions

Does this 2 / " keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Yes, whichever version you have: this 2 / " keycap is a one-unit cap shared by the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac. Just check that your keyboard uses the QWERTZ (DE) layout, so the printed characters match.
Is the hinge included with the 2 / " key?
Yes: cap and hinge arrive together. The dome, the small rubber cup that makes the 2 / " key spring back, is not part of the order; the one on your keyboard is reused, and a spare dome can be ordered on its own.
My 2 / " key stays dead despite a new cap — where is the fault?
A key that goes down normally but types nothing points to the rubber dome, sold separately; if the 2 / " key wobbles, it is the hinge, supplied with it. When several keys next to the 2 / " key fail at the same time, the cause is inside the keyboard, not under the cap.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
