Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.
Where is the * key on the numeric keypad and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the * key on the numeric keypad sits at the top of the keypad, between / and −, above the 9. It types an asterisk, the multiplication sign, in a calculator or a spreadsheet. Unlike the keypad digits, it does not depend on Num Lock.
About the × (Num) replacement key
The × (Num) key from the Logitech MX Keys numeric keypad, supplied with its hinge, to get a complete keypad back when a key has broken or vanished. We take the × (Num) key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.
Compatibility
This × (Num) keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac), the only ones with a numeric keypad: the MX Keys Mini has none, so there is no place for it there. The legend is that of the QWERTY (ES) layout.
The × (Num) key: position, size and wear
Only the full-size MX Keys has a numeric keypad; its keys take bursts of one-handed presses whenever figures are keyed in. A key this size has no stabiliser, so all of its support comes from the X-shaped hinge and its four anchor points. When the × (Num) key starts to lean or comes away, that hinge is nearly always what failed, well before the cap.
How to install it
Allow under a minute to refit the × (Num) key, bare-handed or with a plastic spudger: free the old hinge if it is broken, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press straight down on the cap until you feel a soft click.
× (Num) key — questions
- Where is the * key on the numeric keypad and what does it do?
- On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the * key on the numeric keypad sits at the top of the keypad, between / and −, above the 9. It types an asterisk, the multiplication sign, in a calculator or a spreadsheet. Unlike the keypad digits, it does not depend on Num Lock.
- Does this × (Num) keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
- Yes, if it is a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (ES) layout. The MX Keys Mini has no numeric keypad.
- Is the hinge included with the × (Num) key?
- Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the × (Num) key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
- I changed the cap on the × (Num) key, but it still types nothing — what now?
- First try the × (Num) key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
