Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.
Where is the left Shift key and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the left Shift key sits on the left edge of the keyboard, below Caps Lock, above Ctrl. Held down, it types capitals and the upper character of dual-legend keys. With the arrow keys, it extends a selection.
About the Shift (L) replacement key
Is your Shift (L) key leaning, catching or off altogether? This Shift (L) key for the Logitech MX Keys comes on its own, hinge included, and refits without tools. We take the Shift (L) key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.
Compatibility
This Shift (L) keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (IT) layout. The MX Keys Mini has its own proportions for this key, so this cap is not meant for it.
The Shift (L) key: position, size and wear
On this keyboard the left Shift is a short key: an extra key (< > on AZERTY) sits between it and the letter row, while the right Shift is much longer. It is held for every capital, with the tip of the left little finger, seldom in its centre. On a cap this wide, an off-centre press loads only one side of the scissor hinge: that side is the one that splits, and the Shift (L) key then leans towards it or catches.
How to install it
Fitting the Shift (L) key takes no tools. Unclip the old cap from a corner, clear away the broken hinge, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press the middle and both ends in turn — a key this wide leans if one side is not engaged.
Shift (L) key — questions
- Where is the left Shift key and what does it do?
- On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the left Shift key sits on the left edge of the keyboard, below Caps Lock, above Ctrl. Held down, it types capitals and the upper character of dual-legend keys. With the arrow keys, it extends a selection.
- Does this Shift (L) keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
- Yes, if it is a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (IT) layout: the Shift (L) key has exactly this shape there. Not on the MX Keys Mini, where this key has other proportions.
- Is the hinge included with the Shift (L) key?
- Yes. The Shift (L) key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the Shift (L) key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
- My Shift (L) key no longer gives capitals — is it the key?
- Try the other Shift key. If that one works, it is indeed this key: its hinge or its dome. If neither responds, the fault is not in the cap.
