Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the J replacement key

Missing the J on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. We take the J key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.

Compatibility

Across the letter and number block, the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac share the same one-unit cap, so this J keycap fits a full-size model and a Mini alike. Choose it by its legend — here, the QWERTY (PT) layout.

The J key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, the J key sits on the middle row, 6th key to the left of Enter. It is one of the eight home-row keys, where the right index finger rests in touch typing. It also does double duty in Ctrl + J, which opens the downloads in Chrome and Edge. A key this size has no stabiliser, so all of its support comes from the X-shaped hinge and its four anchor points. When the J key starts to lean or comes away, that hinge is nearly always what failed, well before the cap.

How to install it

No tools needed. Lift what is left of the old J key by one corner, straight up, clear away any pieces of hinge, clip the supplied hinge flat onto its anchor points, then set the new cap on top and press the centre until it clicks.

J key — questions

Will this J keycap fit my MX Keys S?
Yes. On the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, every key of the letter and number block has the same one-unit cap, the J key included; what has to match is the layout, here QWERTY (PT).
Is the hinge included with the J key?
Yes. The J key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the J key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
I changed the cap on the J key, but it still types nothing — what now?
If the J key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the J key still feels mushy.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
