Repair or replace an MX Keys: the numbers

Repair a Logitech MX Keys or buy another? Real prices for keys, hinges, battery and motherboard, shipping included, and when buying new makes sense.

The short answer

Repairing is almost always cheaper: a letter costs €8.99, a hinge on its own €6.99, while a new MX Keys costs over €100. Even five keys come to €40.45, with free shipping. The maths only flips if the metal plate is bent or several internal parts fail at once.

Every MX Keys owner faces this when a key breaks: order the part or buy a new keyboard? The amounts below are what the site's basket calculates today, shipping to France included: the second key in an order is 20% off and every one after it 10% off, and tracked-letter shipping (€2 to France) is free from €30.

What a repair costs, case by case

A broken key is replaced individually: €8.99 for a letter or digit, €21.90 for the space bar, hinge included. If only the small plastic X under the key gave way, the hinge is enough (€6.99). Tracked-letter shipping is €2 to France, €5 to the rest of Europe and €9 elsewhere, and free from €30. The second key in an order is 20% off, every one after it 10% off: three letters come to €26.27 delivered, the space bar and left Shift together to €37.82.

Battery and motherboard: internal failures

A battery that no longer holds a charge is replaced for €9.99: the six case screws sit under the rubber feet, and the keys stay in place. The motherboard, which carries the radio module and USB-C charging, costs €14.99 and needs a full teardown. Even then, the repair stays far below the price of a new keyboard.

When buying another makes sense

Three cases tip the balance. A drop has bent the metal plate that holds the keys: it cannot be straightened cleanly. A sugary liquid has reached the board in several places: cleaning is not always enough, and parts add up. Or many keys and an internal part fail together: a refurbished keyboard then becomes worth comparing.

What you keep by repairing

Repairing means keeping the keyboard you know, its layout and its settings, instead of buying a whole device over a few millimetres of plastic. It is also one keyboard fewer in the bin. Every key we sell comes from a dismantled second-hand MX Keys, and each product page shows the real stock.

Verdict

Repairing is the right call for the vast majority of failures: a key, a hinge, the battery or even the motherboard cost far less than a new keyboard. Buying another is only justified by structural damage (a bent plate) or a pile-up of internal failures.

FAQ

How much does it cost to repair an MX Keys key?

€10.99 delivered to France for a letter (€8.99 + €2 shipping), €8.99 if only the hinge needs replacing. Shipping is free from €30.

How many broken keys before buying new is better?

There is no fixed threshold: even ten letters stay below the price of a new keyboard. The maths mostly changes when an internal failure or structural damage is added.

If my Logitech warranty is still active, should I repair it myself?

No. If the keyboard is still under warranty and the fault is not due to a knock or a spill, contact Logitech support first: opening the keyboard could cost you the warranty.
