Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

Where is the Insert key and what does it do?

On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the Insert key sits in the block to the right of Backspace, to the left of Home, above Delete. It toggles between insert mode, where typed text slots in, and overtype mode, where it replaces the following characters. Text that disappears as you type often comes from pressing Insert by accident.

About the Insert replacement key

A Insert key for the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge, to replace a navigation key that cracked, wobbles or went missing. The Insert key is a genuine Logitech part, pre-owned, taken from a dismantled keyboard; the rubber dome is not supplied, as the one on your keyboard stays in place.

Compatibility

This Insert keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac); the MX Keys Mini has no six-key navigation block. The legend is that of the QWERTY (US) layout.

The Insert key: position, size and wear

The Insert key is part of the six-key block (Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End, Page Down) between the main block and the keypad; the MX Keys Mini has no such block. As a one-unit key with no metal wire, it breaks the way letters do: a split hinge or a torn clip, then a key that leans and finally comes off.

How to install it

No tools needed. Lift what is left of the old Insert key by one corner, straight up, clear away any pieces of hinge, clip the supplied hinge flat onto its anchor points, then set the new cap on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Insert key — questions

Where is the Insert key and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the Insert key sits in the block to the right of Backspace, to the left of Home, above Delete. It toggles between insert mode, where typed text slots in, and overtype mode, where it replaces the following characters. Text that disappears as you type often comes from pressing Insert by accident.
Is the Insert key compatible with my MX Keys keyboard?
Yes on a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac); the MX Keys Mini has no navigation block.
Is the hinge included with the Insert key?
Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the Insert key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
I changed the cap on the Insert key, but it still types nothing — what now?
First try the Insert key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
