Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the L replacement key

A replacement L key for the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge: a letter that pops off, leans or stops typing is a one-minute repair, not a new keyboard. A genuine salvaged part: the L key is taken, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard and shipped without a dome.

Compatibility

Across the letter and number block, the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac share the same one-unit cap, so this L keycap fits a full-size model and a Mini alike. Choose it by its legend — here, the QWERTY (US) layout.

The L key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, the L key sits on the middle row, 4th key to the left of Enter. It is one of the eight home-row keys, where the right ring finger rests in touch typing. It also does double duty in Ctrl + L, which jumps to the browser address bar. Nothing steadies the L key apart from its scissor hinge: one-unit keys have no metal wire. A hinge split on one side makes it rock, and a torn clip lets it go at the first knock.

How to install it

No tools needed. Lift what is left of the old L key by one corner, straight up, clear away any pieces of hinge, clip the supplied hinge flat onto its anchor points, then set the new cap on top and press the centre until it clicks.

L key — questions

Will the L key also fit an MX Keys Mini?
Yes. On the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, every key of the letter and number block has the same one-unit cap, the L key included; what has to match is the layout, here QWERTY (US).
Is the hinge included with the L key?
Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the L key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
My L key stays dead despite a new cap — where is the fault?
First try the L key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
