Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.
Where is the space bar and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the space bar sits on the bottom row, between Alt and Alt Gr. It inserts a space between words; in a browser it scrolls the page down one screen, and Shift + Space scrolls back up. At 6.25 units wide, it rests on a central hinge and a metal stabiliser wire.
About this replacement space bar
A genuine space bar for the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge, to replace a bar that tilts, catches on one side or has come off, instead of replacing the whole keyboard. We take the space bar from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.
Compatibility
This space bar fits the full-size MX Keys — MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac — which share the same 6.25-unit bar; the MX Keys Mini's bar is 5.5 units long and does not swap. It carries no legend, so the keyboard layout makes no difference.
The space bar: position, size and wear
The space bar is the longest key on the keyboard, pressed between every word: it rests on a central hinge and a metal stabiliser wire. When the wire slips out of its clips or an arm of the hinge cracks, the bar tilts, catches on one side or no longer springs back.
How to install it
Replacing the space bar needs no tools. Hook the metal stabiliser wire into its two clips first, then set the bar over the central hinge and press the middle until it clicks, then both ends so it sits flush. The hinge comes with the bar.
Space bar — questions
- Where is the space bar and what does it do?
- On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the space bar sits on the bottom row, between Alt and Alt Gr. It inserts a space between words; in a browser it scrolls the page down one screen, and Shift + Space scrolls back up. At 6.25 units wide, it rests on a central hinge and a metal stabiliser wire.
- Does this space bar fit my Logitech MX Keys?
- Yes, if it is a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac). With no legend on it, it fits whatever the keyboard layout; the MX Keys Mini takes a shorter bar.
- Is the hinge included with the space bar?
- Yes. The space bar ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the space bar is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
- My space bar feels loose or uneven after fitting — what should I check?
- The space bar rides on a metal stabiliser wire. If it rocks or sticks, lift it off and make sure the wire is fully seated in its two clips before pressing the bar back down.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
