Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the W replacement key

Missing the W on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. We take the W key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.

Compatibility

This W keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is QWERTY (US).

The W key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, the W key sits on the top letter row, just below the digits, 2nd key to the right of Tab. In touch typing, it belongs to the left ring finger. It also does double duty in Ctrl + W, which closes the active browser tab. With no metal wire under a one-unit cap, the W key rests entirely on its scissor hinge. A press at an angle, a fingernail slipped underneath or a vigorous clean is enough to tear one of its clips.

How to install it

Allow under a minute to refit the W key, bare-handed or with a plastic spudger: free the old hinge if it is broken, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press straight down on the cap until you feel a soft click.

W key — questions

Does this W keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Yes. On the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, every key of the letter and number block has the same one-unit cap, the W key included; what has to match is the layout, here QWERTY (US).
Is the hinge included with the W key?
Yes: cap and hinge arrive together. The dome, the small rubber cup that makes the W key spring back, is not part of the order; the one on your keyboard is reused, and a spare dome can be ordered on its own.
My W key stays dead despite a new cap — where is the fault?
If the W key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the W key still feels mushy.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
