Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the X replacement key
Missing the X on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. The X key is a genuine Logitech part, pre-owned, taken from a dismantled keyboard; the rubber dome is not supplied, as the one on your keyboard stays in place.
Compatibility
Across the letter and number block, the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac share the same one-unit cap, so this X keycap fits a full-size model and a Mini alike. Choose it by its legend — here, the QWERTY (US) layout.
The X key: position, size and wear
On the full-size MX Keys, the X key sits on the bottom row of the letter block, 3rd key to the right of the left Shift key. In touch typing, it belongs to the left ring finger. It also does double duty in Ctrl + X, which cuts the selection. Like every one-unit key, the X key has no metal wire underneath: it is held only by its scissor hinge, clipped onto four anchor points. Once one clip gives way, the key tilts, pops off or falls out, while the cap itself is often intact.
How to install it
The X key needs no tools: unhook the old cap at a corner, take out any remains of the hinge, clip the supplied hinge in flat, then press the new cap down until you hear the click.
X key — questions
- Will the X key also fit an MX Keys Mini?
- It does, full-size or Mini: the X key has the same one-unit cap on all four models. Only the legend depends on the layout — QWERTY (US) for this one.
- Is the hinge included with the X key?
- Yes. The X key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the X key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
- My X key still doesn't work after I replaced the cap — why?
- If the X key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the X key still feels mushy.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
