Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Where is the Alt key and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the Alt key sits on the bottom row, between the Windows key and the space bar. In Windows it forms Alt + Tab (switch window) or Alt + F4 (close the active window). On a Mac it becomes Command (⌘), hence its dual legend “cmd | alt”.
About the Cmd / Alt (L) replacement key
Is your Cmd / Alt (L) key leaning, catching or off altogether? This Cmd / Alt (L) key for the Logitech MX Keys comes on its own, hinge included, and refits without tools. The Cmd / Alt (L) key is a genuine Logitech part, pre-owned, taken from a dismantled keyboard; the rubber dome is not supplied, as the one on your keyboard stays in place.
Compatibility
This Cmd / Alt (L) keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (ES) layout. On the MX Keys Mini, Ctrl and both Cmd / Alt keys are only 1.125 units wide, so this cap does not fit there.
The Cmd / Alt (L) key: position, size and wear
The Cmd / Alt (L) key is 1.25 units wide, a unit being the width of a letter key. It is often held by the left thumb, on its inner edge, for an Alt + Tab. On a cap this wide, an off-centre press loads only one side of the scissor hinge: that side is the one that splits, and the Cmd / Alt (L) key then leans towards it or catches.
How to install it
Lift the old Cmd / Alt (L) cap by a corner, remove the damaged hinge and clip in the one supplied. Lay the Cmd / Alt (L) key flat, then press the centre and each end: on a key wider than a letter, one side left unseated makes it lean.
Cmd / Alt (L) key — questions
- Where is the Alt key and what does it do?
- On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the Alt key sits on the bottom row, between the Windows key and the space bar. In Windows it forms Alt + Tab (switch window) or Alt + F4 (close the active window). On a Mac it becomes Command (⌘), hence its dual legend “cmd | alt”.
- Is the Cmd / Alt (L) key compatible with my MX Keys keyboard?
- Yes, if it is a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (ES) layout: the Cmd / Alt (L) key has exactly this shape there. Not on the MX Keys Mini, where Ctrl and both Cmd / Alt keys are narrower (1.125 units).
- Is the hinge included with the Cmd / Alt (L) key?
- Yes, the X-shaped hinge comes with the Cmd / Alt (L) key — it is often the part that broke. Only the rubber dome is not supplied: it stays in place on the keyboard under the Cmd / Alt (L) key, and domes are sold in packs among our spare parts.
- My Cmd / Alt (L) key feels loose or uneven after fitting — what should I check?
- Take the Cmd / Alt (L) cap off again and check that the hinge is clipped onto all its anchor points; if a metal wire sits under the key, make sure it is engaged in its clips. Then press the centre of the Cmd / Alt (L) key before its ends.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
