Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

Where is the left Ctrl key and what does it do?

On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the left Ctrl key sits at the bottom left of the keyboard, below the left Shift key. It types nothing on its own: held down, it forms the shortcuts Ctrl + C (copy), Ctrl + V (paste), Ctrl + Z (undo) or Ctrl + S (save). On a Mac, those shortcuts use Cmd instead.

About the Ctrl replacement key

A replacement Ctrl key for the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge: a key used all day long, replaced on its own rather than with a new keyboard. Genuine Logitech and pre-owned, the Ctrl key was removed from another keyboard; only the rubber dome is not included.

Compatibility

This Ctrl keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (ES) layout. On the MX Keys Mini, Ctrl and both Cmd / Alt keys are only 1.125 units wide, so this cap does not fit there.

The Ctrl key: position, size and wear

The Ctrl key is wider than a letter key. It is held for every shortcut, most often by the left little finger resting on its corner. On a cap this wide, an off-centre press loads only one side of the scissor hinge: that side is the one that splits, and the Ctrl key then leans towards it or catches.

How to install it

Fitting the Ctrl key takes no tools. Unclip the old cap from a corner, clear away the broken hinge, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press the middle and both ends in turn — a key this wide leans if one side is not engaged.

Ctrl key — questions

Where is the left Ctrl key and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the left Ctrl key sits at the bottom left of the keyboard, below the left Shift key. It types nothing on its own: held down, it forms the shortcuts Ctrl + C (copy), Ctrl + V (paste), Ctrl + Z (undo) or Ctrl + S (save). On a Mac, those shortcuts use Cmd instead.
Is the Ctrl key compatible with my MX Keys keyboard?
Yes, if it is a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTY (ES) layout: the Ctrl key has exactly this shape there. Not on the MX Keys Mini, where Ctrl and both Cmd / Alt keys are narrower (1.125 units).
Is the hinge included with the Ctrl key?
Yes, the X-shaped hinge comes with the Ctrl key — it is often the part that broke. Only the rubber dome is not supplied: it stays in place on the keyboard under the Ctrl key, and domes are sold in packs among our spare parts.
My Ctrl key feels loose or uneven after fitting — what should I check?
Take the Ctrl cap off again and check that the hinge is clipped onto all its anchor points; if a metal wire sits under the key, make sure it is engaged in its clips. Then press the centre of the Ctrl key before its ends.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
