The 1 / ! key: position, size and wear
On the full-size MX Keys, the 1 / ! key sits on the number row, 2nd key from the left. It types 1 on its own; the symbol printed beside it needs Shift. With no metal wire under a one-unit cap, the 1 / ! key rests entirely on its scissor hinge. A press at an angle, a fingernail slipped underneath or a vigorous clean is enough to tear one of its clips.
How to install it
No tools needed. Lift what is left of the old 1 / ! key by one corner, straight up, clear away any pieces of hinge, clip the supplied hinge flat onto its anchor points, then set the new cap on top and press the centre until it clicks.

- Will this 1 / ! keycap fit my MX Keys S?
- It does, full-size or Mini: the 1 / ! key has the same one-unit cap on all four models. Only the legend depends on the layout — QWERTY (PT) for this one.
- Is the hinge included with the 1 / ! key?
- Yes. The 1 / ! key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the 1 / ! key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
- My 1 / ! key still doesn't work after I replaced the cap — why?
- A key that goes down normally but types nothing points to the rubber dome, sold separately; if the 1 / ! key wobbles, it is the hinge, supplied with it. When several keys next to the 1 / ! key fail at the same time, the cause is inside the keyboard, not under the cap.
