Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.
Where is the * key on the numeric keypad and what does it do?
On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the * key on the numeric keypad sits at the top of the keypad, between / and −, above the 9. It types an asterisk, the multiplication sign, in a calculator or a spreadsheet. Unlike the keypad digits, it does not depend on Num Lock.
About the × (Num) replacement key
The × (Num) key from the Logitech MX Keys numeric keypad, supplied with its hinge, to get a complete keypad back when a key has broken or vanished. A genuine salvaged part: the × (Num) key is taken, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard and shipped without a dome.
Compatibility
This × (Num) keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac), the only ones with a numeric keypad: the MX Keys Mini has none, so there is no place for it there. The legend is that of the QWERTZ (CH) layout.
The × (Num) key: position, size and wear
Only the full-size MX Keys has a numeric keypad; its keys take bursts of one-handed presses whenever figures are keyed in. Nothing steadies the × (Num) key apart from its scissor hinge: one-unit keys have no metal wire. A hinge split on one side makes it rock, and a torn clip lets it go at the first knock.
How to install it
Fitting takes no tools. If the old hinge under the × (Num) key is split, remove its fragments; seat the one supplied, hold the new cap flat above it and press the middle — a click tells you it is held.
× (Num) key — questions
- Where is the * key on the numeric keypad and what does it do?
- On a full-size Logitech MX Keys, the * key on the numeric keypad sits at the top of the keypad, between / and −, above the 9. It types an asterisk, the multiplication sign, in a calculator or a spreadsheet. Unlike the keypad digits, it does not depend on Num Lock.
- Will the × (Num) key fit my MX Keys?
- Yes, if it is a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac) in the QWERTZ (CH) layout. The MX Keys Mini has no numeric keypad.
- Is the hinge included with the × (Num) key?
- Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the × (Num) key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
- My × (Num) key stays dead despite a new cap — where is the fault?
- If the × (Num) key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the × (Num) key still feels mushy.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
