Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the X replacement key
Missing the X on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. A genuine salvaged part: the X key is taken, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard and shipped without a dome.
Compatibility
This X keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is QWERTZ (CH).
The X key: position, size and wear
On the full-size MX Keys, the X key sits on the bottom row of the letter block, 3rd key to the right of the left Shift key. In touch typing, it belongs to the left ring finger. Beyond typing, it drives the Ctrl + X shortcut, which cuts the selection. A key this size has no stabiliser, so all of its support comes from the X-shaped hinge and its four anchor points. When the X key starts to lean or comes away, that hinge is nearly always what failed, well before the cap.
How to install it
Allow under a minute to refit the X key, bare-handed or with a plastic spudger: free the old hinge if it is broken, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press straight down on the cap until you feel a soft click.
X key — questions
- Does this X keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
- Yes. On the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, every key of the letter and number block has the same one-unit cap, the X key included; what has to match is the layout, here QWERTZ (CH).
- Is the hinge included with the X key?
- Yes. The X key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the X key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
- I changed the cap on the X key, but it still types nothing — what now?
- If the X key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the X key still feels mushy.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
