Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the Y replacement key
Missing the Y on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. We take the Y key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.
Compatibility
This Y keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is QWERTZ (CH).
The Y key: position, size and wear
On the full-size MX Keys, the Y key sits on the bottom row of the letter block, 2nd key to the right of the left Shift key. In touch typing, it belongs to the left little finger. Beyond typing, it drives the Ctrl + Y shortcut, which redoes the undone action in most Windows programs. Nothing steadies the Y key apart from its scissor hinge: one-unit keys have no metal wire. A hinge split on one side makes it rock, and a torn clip lets it go at the first knock.
How to install it
The Y key needs no tools: unhook the old cap at a corner, take out any remains of the hinge, clip the supplied hinge in flat, then press the new cap down until you hear the click.
Y key — questions
- Will the Y key also fit an MX Keys Mini?
- It does, full-size or Mini: the Y key has the same one-unit cap on all four models. Only the legend depends on the layout — QWERTZ (CH) for this one.
- Is the hinge included with the Y key?
- Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the Y key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
- My Y key still doesn't work after I replaced the cap — why?
- If the Y key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the Y key still feels mushy.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
