Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the X replacement key
Missing the X on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. The X key is a genuine Logitech part, pre-owned, taken from a dismantled keyboard; the rubber dome is not supplied, as the one on your keyboard stays in place.
Compatibility
This X keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is QWERTZ (DE).
The X key: position, size and wear
On the full-size MX Keys, the X key sits on the bottom row of the letter block, 3rd key to the right of the left Shift key. In touch typing, it belongs to the left ring finger. It also does double duty in Ctrl + X, which cuts the selection. With no metal wire under a one-unit cap, the X key rests entirely on its scissor hinge. A press at an angle, a fingernail slipped underneath or a vigorous clean is enough to tear one of its clips.
How to install it
The X key needs no tools: unhook the old cap at a corner, take out any remains of the hinge, clip the supplied hinge in flat, then press the new cap down until you hear the click.
X key — questions
- Will this X keycap fit my MX Keys S?
- It does, full-size or Mini: the X key has the same one-unit cap on all four models. Only the legend depends on the layout — QWERTZ (DE) for this one.
- Is the hinge included with the X key?
- Yes, the X-shaped hinge comes with the X key — it is often the part that broke. Only the rubber dome is not supplied: it stays in place on the keyboard under the X key, and domes are sold in packs among our spare parts.
- My X key still doesn't work after I replaced the cap — why?
- A key that goes down normally but types nothing points to the rubber dome, sold separately; if the X key wobbles, it is the hinge, supplied with it. When several keys next to the X key fail at the same time, the cause is inside the keyboard, not under the cap.

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
