Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the Z replacement key

Missing the Z on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. A genuine salvaged part: the Z key is taken, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard and shipped without a dome.

Compatibility

This Z keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is AZERTY (FR).

The Z key: position, size and wear

The Z key sits on the main typing block, among the most frequently pressed keys on the keyboard. Beyond typing, it drives the Ctrl + Z shortcut, which undoes the last action. Like every one-unit key, the Z key has no metal wire underneath: it is held only by its scissor hinge, clipped onto four anchor points. Once one clip gives way, the key tilts, pops off or falls out, while the cap itself is often intact.

How to install it

Fitting takes no tools. If the old hinge under the Z key is split, remove its fragments; seat the one supplied, hold the new cap flat above it and press the middle — a click tells you it is held.

4-step guide: repairing a broken MX Keys key

Z key — questions

Does this Z keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Yes, whichever version you have: this Z keycap is a one-unit cap shared by the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac. Just check that your keyboard uses the AZERTY (FR) layout, so the printed characters match.
Is the hinge included with the Z key?
Yes, the X-shaped hinge comes with the Z key — it is often the part that broke. Only the rubber dome is not supplied: it stays in place on the keyboard under the Z key, and domes are sold in packs among our spare parts.
I changed the cap on the Z key, but it still types nothing — what now?
First try the Z key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
