Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the Bluetooth 1 replacement key

The Bluetooth 1 key from the top row of the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge, to replace a key that cracked, was torn off or got lost. Genuine Logitech and pre-owned, the Bluetooth 1 key was removed from another keyboard; only the rubber dome is not included.

Compatibility

This Bluetooth 1 keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac), not the MX Keys Mini, whose top-row caps are shorter. The legend is that of the QWERTY (US) layout. On the MX Keys S, the top-row keys carry different icons, so this key will not match them exactly.

The Bluetooth 1 key: position, size and wear

The Bluetooth 1 key belongs to the top row, which drives shortcuts, media and brightness. The top row has no metal wires either: the cap is held by its X-shaped hinge alone, so a sideways knock while cleaning, or from something resting on the keys, is enough to unhook the Bluetooth 1 key.

How to install it

No tools needed. Lift what is left of the old Bluetooth 1 key by one corner, straight up, clear away any pieces of hinge, clip the supplied hinge flat onto its anchor points, then set the new cap on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Guide: removing an MX Keys key without breaking the clip

Bluetooth 1 key — questions

Will the Bluetooth 1 key fit my MX Keys?
Yes on a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac); no on the MX Keys Mini, whose top-row caps are shorter.
Is the hinge included with the Bluetooth 1 key?
Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the Bluetooth 1 key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
I changed the cap on the Bluetooth 1 key, but it still types nothing — what now?
First try the Bluetooth 1 key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
