Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the Standby replacement key

Has your MX Keys lost its Standby key? This is the part on its own, hinge included, so the top row is complete again without a new keyboard. We take the Standby key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.

Compatibility

This Standby keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac), not the MX Keys Mini, whose top-row caps are shorter. The legend is that of the QWERTY (US) layout. On the MX Keys S, the top-row keys carry different icons, so this key will not match them exactly.

The Standby key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, it sits in the top row, above −. Marked with a padlock, it locks the computer session. The top row has no metal wires either: the cap is held by its X-shaped hinge alone, so a sideways knock while cleaning, or from something resting on the keys, is enough to unhook the Standby key.

How to install it

No tools needed. Lift what is left of the old Standby key by one corner, straight up, clear away any pieces of hinge, clip the supplied hinge flat onto its anchor points, then set the new cap on top and press the centre until it clicks.

4-step guide: repairing a broken MX Keys key

Standby key — questions

Is the Standby key compatible with my MX Keys keyboard?
Yes on a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac); no on the MX Keys Mini, whose top-row caps are shorter.
Is the hinge included with the Standby key?
Yes. The Standby key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the Standby key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
My Standby key stays dead despite a new cap — where is the fault?
A key that goes down normally but types nothing points to the rubber dome, sold separately; if the Standby key wobbles, it is the hinge, supplied with it. When several keys next to the Standby key fail at the same time, the cause is inside the keyboard, not under the cap.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
