Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the Y replacement key

A replacement Y key for the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge: a letter that pops off, leans or stops typing is a one-minute repair, not a new keyboard. We take the Y key from dismantled keyboards: it is a genuine, pre-owned Logitech cap, sold without the dome.

Compatibility

This Y keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is QWERTY (ES).

The Y key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, the Y key sits on the top letter row, just below the digits, 6th key to the right of Tab. In touch typing, it belongs to the right index finger. Beyond typing, it drives the Ctrl + Y shortcut, which redoes the undone action in most Windows programs. Nothing steadies the Y key apart from its scissor hinge: one-unit keys have no metal wire. A hinge split on one side makes it rock, and a torn clip lets it go at the first knock.

How to install it

The Y key needs no tools: unhook the old cap at a corner, take out any remains of the hinge, clip the supplied hinge in flat, then press the new cap down until you hear the click.

Y key — questions

Does this Y keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
It does, full-size or Mini: the Y key has the same one-unit cap on all four models. Only the legend depends on the layout — QWERTY (ES) for this one.
Is the hinge included with the Y key?
Yes. The hinge travels in the parcel with the Y key, ready to fit; what you will not find is the rubber dome, which never leaves your keyboard and is sold separately if needed.
My Y key stays dead despite a new cap — where is the fault?
First try the Y key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
