Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the Z replacement key

Missing the Z on your Logitech MX Keys, or has it stopped responding? This is the key on its own, hinge included, ready to clip in where the old one was. No copy here: the Z key comes, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard, and arrives without the rubber dome, which stays on yours.

Compatibility

This Z keycap is a one-unit cap from the alphanumeric block: it clips onto the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, which all use the same key size across that block. Only the legend changes from one layout to another; this one is QWERTY (PT).

The Z key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, the Z key sits on the bottom row of the letter block, 2nd key to the right of the left Shift key. In touch typing, it belongs to the left little finger. It also does double duty in Ctrl + Z, which undoes the last action. With no metal wire under a one-unit cap, the Z key rests entirely on its scissor hinge. A press at an angle, a fingernail slipped underneath or a vigorous clean is enough to tear one of its clips.

How to install it

Allow under a minute to refit the Z key, bare-handed or with a plastic spudger: free the old hinge if it is broken, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press straight down on the cap until you feel a soft click.

4-step guide: repairing a broken MX Keys key

Z key — questions

Does this Z keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Yes. On the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, every key of the letter and number block has the same one-unit cap, the Z key included; what has to match is the layout, here QWERTY (PT).
Is the hinge included with the Z key?
Yes. The Z key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the Z key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
I changed the cap on the Z key, but it still types nothing — what now?
First try the Z key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
