Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the Esc replacement key

The Esc key from the top row of the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge, to replace a key that cracked, was torn off or got lost. No copy here: the Esc key comes, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard, and arrives without the rubber dome, which stays on yours.

Compatibility

This Esc keycap is cut for QWERTZ (DE) keyboards and fits the MX Keys Mini only. The full-size MX Keys uses a different geometry for this key — on the Mini, the function row is shorter, the arrows are half-height keys and the modifiers are narrower. Only letters, digits and special characters, all 1U, swap between the two chassis. The legend matches the QWERTZ (DE) layout.

The Esc key: position, size and wear

The Esc key belongs to the top row, which drives shortcuts, media and brightness. The top row has no metal wires either: the cap is held by its X-shaped hinge alone, so a sideways knock while cleaning, or from something resting on the keys, is enough to unhook the Esc key.

How to install it

Fitting takes no tools. If the old hinge under the Esc key is split, remove its fragments; seat the one supplied, hold the new cap flat above it and press the middle — a click tells you it is held.

Guide: repairing or replacing an MX Keys key, step by step

Esc key — questions

Does this Esc keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Only if that keyboard is an MX Keys Mini. On the full-size MX Keys this key does not have the same geometry, so the cap will not seat. Letters, digits and special characters are the ones that swap freely between the two chassis — this key is not one of them.
Is the hinge included with the Esc key?
Yes. The Esc key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the Esc key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
My Esc key still doesn't work after I replaced the cap — why?
If the Esc key was unresponsive rather than physically broken, the fault usually lies in its scissor hinge, included here, or in the rubber dome underneath, sold separately. Replace the hinge first, then the dome if the Esc key still feels mushy.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
