Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the F4 replacement key

Has your MX Keys lost its F4 key? This is the part on its own, hinge included, so the top row is complete again without a new keyboard. A genuine salvaged part: the F4 key is taken, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard and shipped without a dome.

Compatibility

This F4 keycap is cut for QWERTZ (DE) keyboards and fits the MX Keys Mini only. The full-size MX Keys uses a different geometry for this key — on the Mini, the function row is shorter, the arrows are half-height keys and the modifiers are narrower. Only letters, digits and special characters, all 1U, swap between the two chassis. The legend matches the QWERTZ (DE) layout.

The F4 key: position, size and wear

It carries two markings: a drawn icon in the middle and “F4” in a corner — the two functions Fn switches between. The top row has no metal wires either: the cap is held by its X-shaped hinge alone, so a sideways knock while cleaning, or from something resting on the keys, is enough to unhook the F4 key.

How to install it

Allow under a minute to refit the F4 key, bare-handed or with a plastic spudger: free the old hinge if it is broken, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press straight down on the cap until you feel a soft click. To test it, try it alone and then with Fn held: one press triggers the drawn function, the other F4.

Step-by-step guide: swapping an MX Keys key and its hinge

F4 key — questions

Does this F4 keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Only if that keyboard is an MX Keys Mini. On the full-size MX Keys this key does not have the same geometry, so the cap will not seat. Letters, digits and special characters are the ones that swap freely between the two chassis — this key is not one of them.
Is the hinge included with the F4 key?
Yes: cap and hinge arrive together. The dome, the small rubber cup that makes the F4 key spring back, is not part of the order; the one on your keyboard is reused, and a spare dome can be ordered on its own.
My F4 key triggers its icon instead of F4 (or the other way round) — is it broken?
No, that is the Fn lock. Hold Fn to get the other function, or press Fn + Esc to swap the behaviour of the whole row. A broken key leans, catches or no longer goes down.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
