Recommended tools for some keys
Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

About the F9 replacement key
The F9 key from the top row of the Logitech MX Keys, supplied with its hinge, to replace a key that cracked, was torn off or got lost. No copy here: the F9 key comes, pre-owned, from a dismantled keyboard, and arrives without the rubber dome, which stays on yours.
Compatibility
This F9 keycap fits the full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac), not the MX Keys Mini, whose top-row caps are shorter. The legend is that of the AZERTY (FR) layout. On the MX Keys S, the top-row keys carry different icons, so this key will not match them exactly.
The F9 key: position, size and wear
Like every F key on the MX Keys, it is printed twice: an icon for its built-in function and “F9” in the corner, reached with Fn. Pressed less often than a letter, the F9 key wears more slowly, but its scissor hinge is just as thin: a fingernail, a cloth or an object resting on the keyboard that catches it sideways can tear a clip off.
How to install it
Allow under a minute to refit the F9 key, bare-handed or with a plastic spudger: free the old hinge if it is broken, clip the new one in the same orientation, then press straight down on the cap until you feel a soft click. To test it, try it alone and then with Fn held: one press triggers the drawn function, the other F9.
F9 key — questions
- Does this F9 keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
- Yes on a full-size MX Keys (MX Keys, MX Keys S and MX Keys for Mac); no on the MX Keys Mini, whose top-row caps are shorter.
- Is the hinge included with the F9 key?
- Yes. The F9 key ships with its scissor hinge, so it also fixes a key that lost its clip. The rubber dome under the F9 key is not included: yours stays on the keyboard, and a spare can be ordered separately if it is damaged.
- My F9 key triggers its icon instead of F9 (or the other way round) — is it broken?
- No, that is the Fn lock. Hold Fn to get the other function, or press Fn + Esc to swap the behaviour of the whole row. A broken key leans, catches or no longer goes down.
Check your keyboard's brand
You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
