Very easy to replace

2 minutes, no need to take the keyboard apart. No skills required.

  1. Lift the old key by one corner, straight up, with a fingernail or a spudger.
  2. Clip the supplied hinge onto its hooks.
  3. Set the new key on top and press the centre until it clicks.

Recommended tools for some keys

Optional but handy: the spudger lifts the key without scratching or bending the mechanism, and the thin blade of the flat screwdriver unhooks the plastic hinge and helps clip it back in.

Compatible with these Logitech keyboards

On these keyboards, this genuine MX Keys key takes the place of the official one: same scissor mechanism and mounting, with a legend and finish that may differ slightly.

About the 4 / $ replacement key

Digit popping off or cap cracked on your MX Keys? This 4 / $ key, shipped with its scissor hinge, replaces it like for like. Genuine Logitech and pre-owned, the 4 / $ key was removed from another keyboard; only the rubber dome is not included.

Compatibility

Across the letter and number block, the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac share the same one-unit cap, so this 4 / $ keycap fits a full-size model and a Mini alike. Choose it by its legend — here, the QWERTY (US) layout.

The 4 / $ key: position, size and wear

On the full-size MX Keys, the 4 / $ key sits on the number row, 5th key from the left. It types 4 on its own; the symbol printed beside it needs Shift. A key this size has no stabiliser, so all of its support comes from the X-shaped hinge and its four anchor points. When the 4 / $ key starts to lean or comes away, that hinge is nearly always what failed, well before the cap.

How to install it

The 4 / $ key needs no tools: unhook the old cap at a corner, take out any remains of the hinge, clip the supplied hinge in flat, then press the new cap down until you hear the click.

4-step guide: repairing a broken MX Keys key

4 / $ key — questions

Does this 4 / $ keycap fit my Logitech MX Keys?
Yes. On the MX Keys, MX Keys S, MX Keys Mini and MX Keys for Mac, every key of the letter and number block has the same one-unit cap, the 4 / $ key included; what has to match is the layout, here QWERTY (US).
Is the hinge included with the 4 / $ key?
Yes, the X-shaped hinge comes with the 4 / $ key — it is often the part that broke. Only the rubber dome is not supplied: it stays in place on the keyboard under the 4 / $ key, and domes are sold in packs among our spare parts.
I changed the cap on the 4 / $ key, but it still types nothing — what now?
First try the 4 / $ key on another computer or in another program, to rule out a setting. If it stays silent, look under the cap: with a split hinge it moves crooked; with a crushed or loose dome it goes down without typing.

Check your keyboard's brand

You are looking at a Logitech key. Keycap and hinge differ between brands: this key will not fit an Apple keyboard.
